Parkside Cottage

At 1,100 square feet, this two-bedroom post-war cottage felt quite small.  Without increasing the square footage the owners were interested in transforming a small traditional cottage into a more spacious, exciting modern home that maintained an appropriate scale and appearance for the neighborhood.

The solution involved removing the existing low ceilings and complicated gabled roof and replacing them with two single pitch roofs.  This allowed the home to maintain a similar, traditional appearance from the street but a modern home beyond.  To create a feeling of space the living, dining, kitchen and sunroom were opened to one another.  Ceilings are high with clerestory windows and skylights.
