The existing ranch house was built in the 1950’s and was composed of a series of rectangular rooms with 8’ ceilings.  The spaces felt static and did not take advantage of day-lighting and the site’s beautiful views.

The solution involved opening the living, dining, and kitchen areas to one another for a great room feel.  An updated interior structure of Douglas fir defines the hallway and adds richness and interest.  New skylights bring natural light to the center of the house.  In the living area the masonry fireplace was removed and window heights were increased from 6’ to almost 10’ allowing the enjoyment of views of the coastal mountains.
