This custom residence was completed in 1999 on a site with varied terrain, mature oak trees and wonderful views of the valley and coastal hills.  The building forms were designed in response to the site’s topography which slopes to the south and west, resulting in a low-profile structure that harmonizes with the land.  Decks and swimming pool are terraced with the hillside below the main living spaces.  Very little earth was moved and no trees were removed for the project.  The exterior walls are clad with natural western red cedar.

Inside, all major areas are positioned to enjoy views and natural lighting.  The client requested that the kitchen act as a “command post” with direct connections to living, dining and family areas.  A heavy timber, Douglas fir structural frame adds richness and warmth to the open interior.
